报告人简介

Dr. Li Zhang received her M.D. training at Anhui Medical University of China from 1978 to 1993 and late obtained her Ph.D.drgree at Leiden University of Netherlands in 1991. Currently, she holds full professorship at the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto and serves as Research Director for University of Toronto Transplantation Institute. The research focus of her laboratory is to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms governing tolerance and immunity and to translate obtained knowledge into novel therapies for immune related diseases. Her group is the first reporting the identification of a novel regulatory T cells, termed double negative (DN) T cells. They have recently developed a novel protocol by which human DN T cells can be expanded ex vivo in large numbers from peripheral blood of healthy donors as well as patients with leukemia and lung cancer. These cells are being explored for their potential as a novel adoptive immunotherapy to eliminate residual cancer cells after conventional therapy.
