Dr. Chan is Amelia F. and Austin Vickery Jr. Professor of Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Co-Director in the Center for Lymphoma and Leukemia Research at University of Nebraska Medical Center. He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from University of Hong Kong in 1973 and then was trained as a House Officer at University Surgical Unit, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong for two years. After being a Clinical Pathologist in Department of Pathology, University of Hong Kong for one year, he went to Department of Pathology, University of Chicago to receive resident training for four years and then worked as a Research Associate for another one year at University of Chicago . Later, he joined the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Graduate School of Arts of Sciences, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, GA as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1986. In 1991, he moved to University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE and became Professor at Department of Pathology and Microbiology. His research is focused on the Molecular Mechanism in the Pathogenesis of lymphoma and leukemia. His group has proposed Hans Model of the subgrouping of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and correlated with their Gene Expression Profiling. Hans Model of DLBCL subgrouping has been widely applied in the clinical classification and diagnosis of DLBCLs and guided their clinical therapy. He contributed the writing of 3 th and 4th edition of WHO Classification of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues at 2001 and 2007. In the last three decades, Dr. Chan has received more than 20 grants as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI, and totally got nearly $20 million support from NIH, Leukemia Society of America, Lymphoma Research Foundation, and other groups. He has published a total of more than 200 scientific papers in prestigious journal including Blood, Cancer Cell, New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Proc Natl Acad Sci (USA) and Nature.
