报告人简介:
Dr. David Irwin is a Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology and a member of the Banting & Best Diabetes Centre at the University of Toronto, Canada. He joined the University of Toronto in 1991 after completing a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Irwin obtained his Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada in 1986. Currently he serves as Associate Editor for the journal Molecular Biology and Evolution and serves on the Editorial Board of several other international journals. He has been a Guest Professor at Peking University, Tsinghua University, East China Normal University and the Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
His laboratory is involved in the molecular biology and molecular evolution of genes associated with Diabetes including mechanisms underlying expression of the human proglucagon gene, the origin and evolution of glucagon-like sequences and their receptors in vertebrate animals, and the molecular evolution of glucokinase and glucokinase regulatory protein. Using molecular and bioinformatics tools the laboratory has discovered the genes for several novel glucagon-like sequences and identified the molecular basis for changed and novel biological functions.
